Another early Foogos creation that predates the website is this Minnesota North Stars artwork. The North Stars are one of a handful of teams that really define the somewhat nomadic and dubious existence of an NHL club.
They were part of the original expansion of 1967, doubling the NHL form six to twelve teams. The other five expasnion teams were the California/Oakland Golden Seals, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and St. Louis Blues.
The Seals floundered in Oakland, and uprooted for the greener pastures of Cleveland in 1976, renaming themselves the Barons. The Barons only played for two seasons, when their owners purchased the also-moribund North Stars and merged the two squads together. (If anyone has ever heard of this happening before, please, do let me know.)
The North Stars retained their home and identity after absorbing the Barons, but ultimately moved themselves, becoming the Dallas Stars in the 1993-94 season for a litany of speculated reasons. The funnest of those is that reviled owner Norman was slapped with a sexual harassment suit and his wife threatened to leave him if he didn’t move the team. How true that is, I don’t know, but like I said, good times. This is how I imagine their conversation to have gone:
“Honey, I’m leaving you!”
“No! Baby I love you!”
“Fine. Then stop leaving the toilet seat up and move your hockey team.”
Anyway, here’s today’s art:This was one of the first products I didn’t like, but looking at it now, i don’t remember why. The star isn’t as crisp as would have hoped, and I recall that mashed potatoes, twice baked, are not as malleable as I’d hoped. Otherwise, this has grown on me over time.
INGREDIENTS: Mashed potatoes, dill, pesto dressing, sour cream
