Friday afternoon, I got to work and saw two enormous plastic containers overflowing with Spanish style orange rice. I don’t really eat starchy foods, so its rare for me to use pasta, bread, rice and the like, so when I saw so much of it, I knew I needed to swipe some for some Foogos.
My mental checklist went through a list of orange-colored sports teams: Detroit Tigers, New York Islanders, New York Mets, Cleveland Browns… I settled on the Cincinnati Bengals, because the black and orange “B” was the simplest shape to draw and recreate.
I just needed something black… or at least significantly darker than the rice. I head across the street to Duke’s, one of those overpriced New York City buffet places that also have sushi, pizza, salad and sandwich stations and probably a full service massage parlor if you know the right questions to ask.
I loaded up on General Tso’s chicken, and got some grape leaves too, just because I liek grape leaves. They wound up being pretty handy, as I used them to fill in the white stroke around the “B” and inside the B-holes.And it really was like the UN. Chinese chicken. Spanish rice. Greek grape leaves. None of these items really go together, but it wasn’t a bad dinner by any means.
