Returning Your Call: Ghostbusters 2

by | Oct 5, 2011 | Blog, Movies, Pop Culture

I remember seeing Ghostbusters 2 in the movie theatre by the Guitar Center off Route 46 in Totowa. I think that place burned down or became a Daffy’s or both. Whatever the case, I was seven, and Slimer was the big thing back in the summer of ’89. Obviously, I fell in love with that movie – I lump it in with the original as one of my top five movies of all-time – and have modeled most of my adult social life on the Peter Venkman School of Picking Up Chicks with moderate success. The only downside is my hair is so vibrant that I think it scares off the really competitive girls, but that’s not really my fault.
My brother Steve, who was three years old, probably should not have seen that movie.  He was scared shitless at the sight of Vigo the Carpathian when he escapes the painting and inhabits Ray’s body.

So to recap: I discover my methodology for approaching strange women; Steve gets a summer of nightmares. Good stuff. My favorite Earthling, a Chinese-Canadian girl from Vancouver, also suffers from PVSD (Post-Vigo Stress Disorder).

TANGENT: How awesome that the villain of this movie is a haunted PAINTING?!? PAINTING?!?! P. A. I. N. T. I. N. G. Ghostbusters 2 did more for my appreciation of art than the Renaissance, MoMA and Crayola put together.

So for the sequel of ghostbusting Foogos, it was only fitting I went the same route as the original. This was considerably harder than the first though, partly because the sequel never matches up to the original, and also because there is a lot more stroke (black lines) in this logo. The strawberry yogurt and pomegranate berry whatever yogurt were a lot closer in color to my eye than I remembered, so I got lost a few times and had to “erase” my line work, aka eat the ‘gurt, before reapplying with the proper color.

TOMORROW: The WORST creation I ever made, which will be the final baseball image under the unsuccessful-to-me hot dog ingredients theme.
