The Hanukkah Pickle

by | Dec 6, 2011 | Blog

The holiday season is in full swing, and I’m feeling the pressure from all sides. Work deadlines are piling up, family gatherings are in full force, and there’s no shortage of social events with friends. Amid all this chaos, finding time to create my usual Foogos has been nearly impossible.

But in the midst of this whirlwind, my mom threw me a curveball: she asked me to make a birthday card for a family friend that features a pickle. Yes, you read that right—a pickle. Now, I’ve been around long enough to know that when it comes to family requests, especially those that sound as random as this one, it’s best not to ask too many questions. In just a few weeks, I’ll be hitting the big 3-0, and if there’s one lesson I’ve learned in my three decades on this Earth, it’s that some things are better left unexplained.

So, with a tight schedule and an even tighter deadline, I found myself working on a project that was a bit outside my usual creative wheelhouse. Designing a pickle-themed birthday card wasn’t something I had on my to-do list, but sometimes you’ve just got to roll with the punches—and in this case, pickles.

This little project was a reminder that during the holidays, when life gets hectic and demands seem endless, it’s important to find humor in the unexpected. Whether it’s a quirky request from a loved one or the simple act of stepping away from the hustle and bustle to create something fun, these moments can bring a bit of joy and lightness to an otherwise overwhelming time.

So, here’s to surviving the holiday madness, one pickle at a time.
