UNDER PRESSURE
I will never be able to say “Thank you,” enough when it relates to this recent spate of internet coverage of Foogos. Here is some of the press the site has garnered in the last couple weeks, and particularly the past 48 hours.

My favorite was a comment – I think it was on Reddit – that was something to the effect of, “These are cool, but clearly fake.” For someone to be so blown away that they can’t wrap their heads around any solution other than these pieces have been Photoshopped… I take that a MAJOR compliment.

OH MY GOD I LOVE COMIC BOOKS
Good golly I bought a lot of comic books this week. The best one? Believe it or not, it’s Aquaman #1, which took every Aquaman joke you ever heard, put it into the issue and still managed to make Fishface cool. That’s like a fat kid pointing out how fat he is before someone makes fun of him about it. Great angle! CBR has a spot-on review of the book.

Another book I picked up was Amazing Spider-Man #670. I tweeted my love for this to Dan Slott, the writer of this fine mag, who is probably more myth than man. Every time I do send him a message, he replies, but then again, I have only given him the highest of praise, which is much deserved. His work is great, and the last 20+ issues of this book have been some of most fun I’ve read in comics in recent memory. The current story, Spider Island, features a New York City in which EVERYONE gets spider powers… and much more than they bargained for. Geek New Wave has similar sentiments on the joy this book brings.

I had no intention of buying Catwoman #1, but I love Batman, so I bit the bullet. It was only okay, but I find it to be the most interesting Bat-title right now, and the racy finale made me yell, “Whhhhhat?” while I was enjoying a Wahoo Bare Bowl at Baja Fresh. Comics Alliance shares the controversial details, along with the true ending of this epic moment in comics history!

Other comics this week: Flash #1, Brilliant #1, Dark Knight #1, Savage Hawkman #1, Fury of Firestorm #1 and Nightwing #1. So many number ones! Flash was the most interesting, but I also dug HawkmanDark Knight was an average Batman starter, but I really wasn’t interested in Brian Michael Bendis’ Brilliant, and I typically adore that man’s work. The writing of Firestorm made me think I was being talked down to.

PIE EATING KING OF THE GALAXY
Last Saturday, my boss threw a barbeque. Even though I’m in perpetual marathon training, I pigged out a bit, and pretty much dominated a pie eating contest, wolfing down two pies in about 6 seconds. There’s a crummy video somewhere of this momentous event, but I can’t find it right now.

But I DO HAVE the banner I made from pulled pork and BBQ sauce for the party.

Zoom in on the “ROAST.” The background is grease from the pulled pork.

FOOGOS FANTASY FOOTBALL
Dammit, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs. My sparkling 2-0 record of NFL teams winning the game following the release of their Foogos has dipped to 2-2. The only logo I made this week was the New Orleans Saints, and I think they should be good for a win.

Yesterday, I left New York City to visit my sponsor, The Mountain Lakes Market, in Mountain Lakes, NJ, and put together Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals Foogos. I would have made more, but I got suckered into stuffing my face with their awesome chili and barbecue shrimp wrapped in bacon. Check the Market out on Facebook and if you’re in North Jersey, definitely stop in and see where the magic happens.

PLAYOFF PAYOFF
I’m glad the 2011 baseball season is almost over. I mean, I can watch the Phillies win all day long, but I really did not enjoy the hot dog themed art as much as anything else I’ve created. But it ain’t over yet! I plan on making Foogos of all the playoff teams. Yes, even a new Yankees logo.

GIRL: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SEASON?
ME: HOCKEY SEASON.
A new batch of NHL Foogos is on the way. Coincidentally, I’ve gotten requests for the Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets. Thankfully, they’re both red, white and blue, so maybe I can bang them out in one shot.

Here are my totally random NHL predictions for this year:

  • The Atlantic Division will finish like so:
    Philadelphia Flyers
    Pittsburgh Penguins
    New York Rangers
    New Jersey Devils
    New York Islanders
  • Zach Parise will get traded.
  • The Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks and Tampa Bay Lightning will win their respective divisions. I think the Northeast and Central will be dogfights.
  • Tim Thomas will not have a great season.
  • Patrick Kane will score 100+ points.
  • The Colorado Avalanche will go nowhere fast while Chris Stewart leads the St. Louis Blues to the playoffs.

ON THE IDIOT BOX
Eastbound & Down, I don’t know how I have lived without you. Danny McBride is friggin’ HILARIOUS. I’ve plowed through all 13 episodes on HBO GO, and they are all laugh out loud funny. For what it’s worth, I almost NEVER laugh out loud watching TV. Do yourself a favor and check this show out if you’re a Johnny-Come-Lately like me.

Happy Sunday, peeps!
