The Boxiest WWF Art Ever

by | Nov 5, 2011 | Blog, Pop Culture, Pro Wrestling

I hope the title of this post rings true—because when it comes to epic projects, honesty is key.

For those who thought I might have abandoned my ambitious WWF art project, fear not! This labor of love, which began back in the summer (July or August, to be exact), is still very much alive and kicking. I’m thrilled to share the latest update on what I’m calling “The Boxiest WWF Art Ever.”

What’s the Buzz?

This project is a comprehensive artistic tribute to over 400 WWF wrestlers spanning the years 1963 to 2001. From the early days of the WWWF (World Wide Wrestling Federation) to Chris Jericho’s landmark undisputed title win, this collection captures the evolution of the wrestling world in all its iconic glory.

The Details

  • Scope: The collection includes a staggering number of wrestlers, covering various eras and pivotal moments in WWF history. This means you’ll find representations of classic legends like Bruno Sammartino and Hulk Hogan, as well as the stars of the Attitude Era and beyond.
  • Variants: To capture the full spectrum of WWF’s colorful roster, there are multiple versions of some wrestlers—three Shawn Michaels, two Lex Lugers, and more. These variants highlight different personas or iconic moments associated with each wrestler.
  • Artistic Style: True to its name, the “boxiest” aspect refers to the geometric, pixel-inspired aesthetic that defines this series. Each wrestler is rendered in a blocky, stylized form, paying homage to the pixel art of vintage video games while offering a fresh take on wrestling iconography.

What’s Next?

There’s still a lot more to come! The project is ongoing, with plans to include additional variants and cover even more wrestlers from different periods. Expect to see more of your favorites and perhaps even some obscure gems from WWF’s storied history.

Why This Project?

Wrestling has been a significant part of pop culture for decades, and this project is a way to celebrate that rich history through art. By blending nostalgia with a unique artistic approach, I hope to offer a fresh perspective on some of the most memorable figures in professional wrestling.

Thank you for your continued support and patience as I work to bring this project to completion. I’m excited to share more updates soon and to showcase the full scope of this artistic tribute to the world of WWF. Stay tuned for more, and as always, your feedback and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated!
